Sarasota County Seagrass Survey Event 4/25/15
We just recently received the following information and request for help. I truly believe that this project is extremely important and beneficial to our membership. Healthy sea grass is critical to all of us that fish Sarasota Bay. Please consider being a part of this program. Please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you plan on attending. I will contact Ashley with a head count. Possibly we can stop for a “cold one”, or two, on the way home…Ken
I would like to invite the Mangrove Coast Fly Fishers to the Sarasota County Seagrass Survey on April 25 from 8:00am – 1:00pm at Ken Thompson Park. I am new the new event coordinator for the seagrass survey and realize that your group was integral to the original seagrass survey that has traditionally been conducted by SEA Team volunteers twice a year. We’ve recently changed the format of the survey, which now includes a one-day event, including volunteer training, data collection, and a volunteer appreciation luncheon. We would love to have your group involved again as we revitalize the SEA Team volunteer program and this citizen science event. If you can share the attached flyer and information for this event with your members and partners, and have any interest in participating as a sponsor, partner, or volunteer group, we’d love the opportunity to collaborate with you.
I’ve attached some corresponding information for your reference.

April Fishing Report
On Saturday, April 18th, a dozen anglers got together at Durante Park. Dave Martin had four clients renting kayaks today. We had a good day of weather, with a sunny, hot and breezy morning. With the winds out of the west, this worked in our favor. The fishing was good, with most of our members getting into fish. The highlights of the day were a mid- twenty inch trout caught by John Weimer, a large Pompano caught by Chub Bortz and Mick Coulas catching ten trout, or more. Some of our members headed home early, but four of us stopped at the New Pass Grill for lunch.

March Fishing Report
On Sunday, March 22nd, 18 anglers met at Middle Beach of Blind Pass Park. This was the first outing where Dave Martin provided kayak rentals to our members. Two of our members took advantage of this opportunity. The weather cooperated with a sunny, but slightly breezy day. We had a favorable tide and the fishing was good. Most of our members had success catching trout, ladyfish, jack’s and kitty cats. Ron Pisani had an outstanding day, catching numerous fish in a hole located in a nearby channel.
Everyone had a great time being out on the water and 8 of our club members stopped at Chili’s on the way home, for lunch and a “cold one”, or two.

As, we have COLD water and very few fish on the flats for our wading members. And since we have not had any waders at our last two outings, we are going to make a shift in locations for this month. We are also going to start later in the day, to take advantage of the heat of the day, in hopes of being able to catch more fish. A few of the club members have been fishing the upper Manatee River @ Fort Hamer with consistent success, therefore, we are holding our February Outing at Ft. Hamer.
There is a boat and kayak launch available, however, this is not an area where you can wade. Perhaps, if you are planning on attending with a boat and have room for another club member to join you; you could let me know.
